Summary
The project brings together researchers from the field of literary studies, comparative literature, digital humanities, cultural, and book history, and educational professionals. The project aims to provide a study on the multidimensional relationship between literary scholarship, literature, culture and society in historical and contemporary contexts. The role of literature in shaping public opinion and political narratives in contemporary and historical perspectives will be one of the central questions, including aspects of literary criticism and censorship. The interdisciplinary research on literary production and translation will showcase current research on literary taste, book consumption and reading habits. It is also crucial to cover closely interlinked and essential discussions on literary education by developing and providing new teaching tools and digital resources for literacy development with the help of literary texts among different groups in Latvia and the diaspora, including the needs of the readers dominant perceptual type. The project results will improve study programmes and courses and elaboration of master and doctoral thesis. The results will include five peer-reviewed monographs, at least 20 peer-reviewed research articles accepted for publishing, at least 30 conference papers delivered and diverse community outreach – popular articles, public lectures and presentations, seminars, society engagement campaign, and other communication events.
