UL ILFA researchers at the event ‘Researchers’ Night 2023’

On 29 September, the event Researchers’ Night 2023 will take place at more than 20 Latvian research institutions—higher education institutions, universities, and research institutes. The event is coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia. As part of the programme, institutions will “open their doors” and offer everyone a wide range of free events and activities across many scientific fields, providing opportunities to meet researchers, go on tours, watch shows, take part in experiments, and join discussions.

Everyone is welcome on 29 September from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the University of Latvia Academic Centre – Science Building (Jelgavas iela 3), where you will also have the chance to meet UL ILFA researchers.

Near the vestibule of rooms 204 and 205, there will be a “Science Speed-Date with a Scientist.” Sit down across from a scientist and ask your burning questions. The maximum length of one conversation is 10 minutes.

Conversation topics:

  • Rita Grīnvalde – urban folklore;

  • Ieva Vīvere – Latvian Roma, ethnomusicology, folk music;

  • Jānis Oga – Latvian literature of the Soviet period;

  • Toms Ķencis – Soviet folklore, nationalism;

  • Eva Eglāja-Kristsone – diary studies, women’s history.

In room 203, “Hidden Pārdaugava”: UL ILFA researchers will share stories of the urban environment and offer interactive activities, including a quiz and puzzles about places, objects, and symbols of Pārdaugava.

Participation in the event takes place within the framework of the Latvian Council of Science (LCS) projects “Experience in the City: Narratives, Memories, and Place Heritage” (Project No. lzp-2020/1-0096) and “Women’s Representation in Latvian Culture and Society (1870–1940)” (Project No. lzp-2020/1-0215), as well as with support from the project “Narrative, Form, and Voice: The Embeddedness of Literature in Culture and Society” (No. VPP-LETONIKA-2022/3-0003), implemented within the State Research Programme “Letonica for the Development of a Latvian and European Society.”
