About the People and Destinies in the Baltic Region, and about Cultural Diversity in the Past

My research explores the cultural landscape of the Baltic region during the late Renaissance, Reformation, Baroque and Enlightenment periods, as well as during the formation of the Latvian nation up until World War II. I focus mainly on the interplay between Baltic German and Latvian traditions and beliefs, and how these are reflected in literary texts created by people in this region. I also examine song as an important factor in the transition from an oral to a reading culture, and the emergence of secular poetry at the intersection of German religious and Latvian folk songs.
