LU LFMI researchers participate in the 14th International Baltic Literary Scholars’ Conference

From 11 to 13 October, the 14th International Baltic Literary Scholars’ Conference is taking place in Vilnius, Lithuania. This year’s theme is “Literature and Empire.”

Researchers from the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia (LU LFMI) are also participating:

  • Benedikts Kalnačs — “Imperial Subalterns, National Poets: A Comparative Perspective on Rūdolfs Blaumanis, Ivan Franko, and Vydūnas”;

  • Eva Eglāja-Kristsone, Jānis Oga — “Enthusiastic Promoters of Cultural Relations with the Soviet Empire: the Case of German Latvian Youth in the 1970s”;

  • Ivars Šteinbergs — “‘World’ Literature? Notes on Coloniality and Books of Translated Poetry in Late Soviet Latvia”;

  • Zita Kārkla — “Traveling Governesses in the Russian Empire: Minna Freimane’s ‘From the Caucasus’ (1878) and Piliņu Katrīna’s ‘A Voyage Round the Asian Part of the World’ (1892)”;

  • Madara Eversone — “The Latvian Soviet Writers as Part of the ‘Great Empire’ Literary Process during the Late Stalinism Period.”
