From Belonging to the Other: Research in the Diaspora and Postcolonial Context
My research interests are in the Latvian diaspora, post-exile studies, and postcolonial criticism. I study how diaspora literature constructs belonging and collective memory. I am particularly interested in the 'Other' in literary research – how literary texts portray and explain difference, and why the 'Other' does not conform to established concepts or norms. This approach expands the perspective on the literary process, revealing how Latvian literature constructs identities and exposes marginalized experiences. I have been working at the ILFA since 2025.
