Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe, Elvis Friks, and Ilga Vālodze Ābelkina are taking part in a conference on the Latvian diaspora
On 27–28 August 2026, the international academic conference “From Exile to Post-Exile: Transformations, Adaptation, and Homeland” will take place at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia.
The conference will feature presentations by Principal Researcher Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe, titled “Remaining in Exile or Returning to Latvia: The Case of Latvian Exile Writer Gunars Janovskis (1916–2000),” and Research Assistant Elvis Friks, titled “A Stranger at Home: Aina Zemdega’s Inner Otherness in the Novel ‘The Inheritance’.”
On 28 August at 3:00 p.m., the conference will conclude with a discussion, “Whose Memory Is It? Exile Archives and Collective History,” at the University of Latvia’s Sapere Aude Hall. The discussion will feature lead researcher Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe and research assistants Ilga Vālodze Ābelkina and Elvis Friks.
