I study the contexts and techniques of Latvian prose and poetry from modernism to the present. In my publications, I combine an interest in literary and cultural history with a theoretical approach to the content and form of the text, focusing primarily on the relationship between experience and representation. I often adopt a comparative perspective, as Latvian literature has never existed in isolation from the rest of the world. The theoretical frameworks of my research include trauma and memory studies, the philosophy of history, the new modernist studies, as well as the poetics of poetry and prose.
