Music and Society
My academic interests include Latvian music history, contemporary musical processes, choral music — particularly the song festival tradition — and music and migration. I am also interested in women's studies in music, Latvian folklore and issues of music communication. The people involved in music and the human core of music have always been at the centre of my interests. Working in cultural media and at the Latvian Music Information Centre has sparked my interest in the relationship between science and society, encouraging me to discuss current research issues with the general public. I have also administered nationally significant music industry programmes and projects, such as 'Latvian Music in the World: Participation in International Music Industry Exhibitions', 'Database/Catalogue of Latvian Composers' and 'Catalogue of Latvian Symphonic Music'. I have also headed the Scientific Research Centre at the Academy of Music, where I have taught courses in Latvian music history and music communication.
