War, Cultural Heritage, and Higher Education

You're invited to the closing event of the project “Data4UA: War, Cultural Heritage and Higher Education”, taking place on April 29 at 11:00 (EEST) on Zoom.

As the project Data4UA – Capacity Building for Data-Driven Cultural Heritage Management in Ukraine comes to a close, we will look back at the achievements and learn about the future plans of our project partners.

Programme Highlights:

  • Jonathan Westin (Associate Professor, University of Gothenburg) and Gunnar Almevik (Professor, University of Gothenburg) will present the lecture:
    “Saint Sophia’s Inscriptions: Participatory and research grounded approaches to data collection during war.”

  • Sanita Reinsone (Associate Professor, University of Latvia), also one of the founders of #ScienceForUkraine, will speak about the importance of international cooperation and active support in safeguarding Ukrainian cultural heritage, sustaining research, and strengthening professional communities during wartime.

  • Experiences and insights will also be shared by representatives from project partners:
    Space4CC, the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia, the University of Ljubljana, and Lviv Polytechnic National University.

This event concludes a project launched at the end of 2023. Data4UA aimed to strengthen the capacity of European higher education institutions in responding to cultural heritage emergencies, with a particular focus on Ukraine. The project explored the role of HEIs and society in responding to cultural heritage crises, enhancing the knowledge and skills of academic staff and students, and fostering public engagement in cultural heritage protection.
