Conference Dedicated to Tradition Archives: Call for Papers

In its 100th anniversary year, the Latvian Folklore Archives (1924), in cooperation with the Archives Working Group and the Cultural Heritage and Property Working Group of the International Society for Ethnology and Folklore (SIEF), is organizing and inviting participation in an international scholarly conference dedicated to the present and future of traditional culture archives. The centenary provides a valuable opportunity to look back and assess how archival history has developed in different countries. At the same time, the conference organizers strongly encourage participants to evaluate the current situation and look ahead to the future—for example, the next ten years.

What is the current state of archiving and maintaining intangible cultural heritage archives (in Europe and beyond)? What might the near future of tradition archives look like? What major research and infrastructure projects are being planned in archives? Do the coming years appear optimistic for archives and their collaborative networks? What challenges lie ahead (legal, ethical, technological, and value-related)? What new archiving solutions can be proposed? What can we learn from the past?

The conference “Traditional Culture Archives: 100 + 10” will take place in Riga from October 29 to 31 next year. The working language of the conference is English, and the deadline for submissions is January 31, 2024.
