The winners of the “Austra’s Tree 2024” Folklore Award have been announced!

“Inspiration Award for Publication of the Year” will be presented to the Latvian Folklore Repository of the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia (LU LFMI) for the final volume of the academic publication Latviešu tautasdziesmas (Latvian Folk Songs, 1979–2024), released in 2024. This marks the completion of the entire publication cycle.

The publication includes approximately one million folk songs collected after the release of Krišjānis Barons’ Latvju dainas (about 219,000 texts) and contains scholarly commentary on song traditions and the cultural realities reflected within them. Thus, Latviešu tautasdziesmas stands as the largest folklore publication in the history of Latvian folkloristics.

Congratulations to our colleagues!

The Austra’s Tree folklore award, presented annually by the Latvian Folklore Society, recognizes significant contributions to the preservation and transmission of traditional culture. The award ceremony is organized by the Culture and Folk Art Centre “Ritums” and is now in its seventh year.
