The third episode of the podcast “Digital Humanities” has been released
The third episode of the podcast “Digitālās Humanitārās zinātnes” (Digital Humanities), titled “Latgalian Language and the Digital Environment,” has been released. In this episode, Haralds Matulis talks with Sanita Martena, Professor of Applied Linguistics at Rēzekne Academy of Technologies and researcher at the Institute of Regional Studies.
The third episode is devoted to the Latgalian text corpus (MuLa) and the Latgalian speech corpus (MuLaR)—their characteristics, development, and functioning—as well as to the differences between written and spoken Latgalian and the hegemony of the written language. In conversation with sociolinguist Sanita Martena, host Haralds Matulis explores questions such as whether Latvians should also be able to speak Latgalian, whether Latgalian functions primarily as an oral language, and how Latgalian appears in the public space of Latgale.
The podcast “Digitālās Humanitārās zinātnes” features conversations with notable figures in the digital humanities (DH) field about the latest DH research in Latvia. The podcast is jointly organized by the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia and the National Library of Latvia.
