The scholarly monograph 'Balsis par jūru' by Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe has been published
We are pleased to announce that the publishing house Dienas grāmata, in its series Es esmu…, has published the monograph Balsis par jūru by Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe, researcher at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia. The book is dedicated to the Latvian writer, poet, and artist Gunars Janovskis (1916–2000).
Dr. philol. Zanda Gūtmane writes:
“An engaging study that not only deepens the understanding of Gunars Janovskis’s biography and creative work, the psychological situation of exile, and the events of the 20th century, but also brings closer together traditional Latvian literature and exile literature, as well as the Latvian and English cultural environments.”
Dr. philol. Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe writes:
“The writer repeatedly acknowledged that in his works he lived through his own life in various versions and possibilities, and that he was unable to write anything in which he himself had not been a participant or observer. This is an essential feature of Janovskis’s prose, and it is also where its strength lies—the ability to live with one’s time and live through one’s time, masterfully weaving the threads of one’s own life together with the lives of literary characters.”
The book was published with the support of the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia.
Book designer: Jānis Esītis.
