The Launch of Volume 2 of Gunārs Saliņš’s Collected Writings
The Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia, Kārlis Vērdiņš, and Laila Saliņa invite you to the launch of the second and final volume of Collected Writings by Gunārs Saliņš and to the opening event marking Gonka’s centenary.
January 18 at 7:00 p.m.
Rainis and Aspazija House (Baznīcas iela 30, Riga)
Program: ceremonial speeches, music, a UL ILFA book table, and meditation with wine.
The second volume of Gunārs Saliņš’s Collected Writings brings together the outstanding poet’s multifaceted literary legacy. For the first time, Saliņš’s youthful poems, which he had compiled in the early 1950s in the unpublished manuscript The Invisible, are published together in one place.
A significant part of the volume is devoted to Saliņš’s translations, as well as his articles and reviews. The volume is further supplemented by Saliņš’s few experiments in prose, and by the section “Marginalia,” which includes texts co-authored by Saliņš and written in a light-hearted spirit.
The publication of the book is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation, the ALA Cultural Foundation, and the Saliņš family.
