The annual K. Barons Conference will take place on 31 October
You are warmly invited to attend the annual Krišjānis Barons Conference, which will take place on 31 October at the Latvian National Library Conference Centre.
This year, the conference’s overarching theme is “Movement and Dance.” The theme is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of choreographer and dance researcher Harijs Sūna (23.03.1923–02.09.1999). Harijs Sūna was one of the most prolific and versatile dance researchers in Latvia and was also a choreographer and dance teacher. He developed a questionnaire-based method for recording information on choreographic folklore from informants, created a system for documenting dance and movement, and conducted extensive research into the history of dance.
The conference will bring together folklorists, ethnographers, sociologists, dance practitioners, and representatives of other fields. The programme includes 16 different papers, followed by an opportunity to take part in social dancing together with Dandari.
