The 12th International Conference of Young Folklorists (YoFo) will take place in Riga

From September 13 to 15, the 12th International Conference of Young Folklorists “Beyond the Field: Fieldwork in the 21st Century” will take place at the Conference Centre of the National Library of Latvia. The conference will bring together more than 30 young scholars in the field from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, and India.

Guest lectures will be delivered by Ulla Savolainen, Lecturer at the University of Helsinki (“The Field of Memory Culture: Ingrian Finns’ Historical Experiences through Multiple Media and Times”), and Klāvs Sedlenieks, Associate Professor at Rīga Stradiņš University (“In Search for Unknown Unknowns. Why Fieldwork is Still the Way!”).

All interested participants are welcome to attend!

The conference is organised by the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia, Archives of Latvian Folklore.

The conference is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia (budget subprogramme 05.04.00 “Krišjānis Barons’ Cabinet of Dainas”), the State Culture Capital Foundation, and the project “Landscapes of Identities: History, Culture and Environment” (No. VPP-LETONIKA-2021/1-0008), implemented within the framework of the National Research Programme “Letonika for the Development of a Latvian and European Society.”
