Researchers from the REALT Project Participated in the 16th Conference on Baltic Studies in Europe in Cambridge

From April 24–26, 2025, the 16th Conference on Baltic Studies in Europe (CBSE) took place in Cambridge, United Kingdom, organized by the Baltic Programme at the Centre for Geopolitics, University of Cambridge. Representatives of the “REALT” project participated in the event with a conference panel titled “The Transformations of Latvian Literary Realism: 19th to 21st Centuries.”

The panel featured the following presentations:

Benedikts Kalnačs – “The Changing Materialities of the Everyday in Late Nineteenth-Century Latvian Realism”;
Zita Kārkla – “Entangled Bodies: Rethinking Realism in Inga Ābele’s Short Stories”;
Ilze Jansone – “21st Century New Realism in the Literary Output of Svens Kuzmins: Materiality and Visual Imagination”;
Artis Ostups – “Traumatic Realism and Material Agency in Eižens Vēveris’ Poems on Mauthausen”.

The presentations and participation in the conference were carried out within the framework of the project “Reclaiming Latvian Realism: Literary Innovation as Identity Quest” (No. lzp-2024/1-0341), supported by the Latvian Council of Science.
