Opening Event of the Exhibition “Hidden Pārdaugava” (PHOTOS)
On June 13, the exhibition “Hidden Pārdaugava” was opened next to the Pārdaugava Creative Centre building at 24 Lapu Street, Riga. The opening brought together researchers of the project “Experience in the City: Narratives, Memories and the Heritage of Place,” storytellers who had shared their memories of Pārdaugava during the project, local residents, and other interested visitors.
During the evening, guests had the opportunity to learn more about the project and the stories and photographs collected within it, now preserved in the digital archive of the Latviešu folkloras krātuve at garamantas.lv. Visitors could tour the exhibition together with its creators, take part in a quiz, and share their own memories of life on the left bank of the Daugava. Ilga Vālodze Ābele, representative of the Pārdaugava Creative Centre, also introduced the history of the building and its future development plans.
The exhibition in the outdoor space of the Pārdaugava Creative Centre will be on view until October 15 of this year.
During the opening event, a competition was also announced. Participants are invited to post on social media an image of a special, mysterious, little-known, or unexpectedly discovered place in Pārdaugava, adding the hashtag #apsleptaPardaugava or #hiddenPardaugava. To take part in the competition and win a book published by UL ILFA, participants are encouraged to add a short comment about the chosen place. On July 13, August 13, September 13, and October 13, one of the institute’s researchers will select a winner.
All images shared with these hashtags (even without a comment) will be collected and added to the Pārdaugava collection in the digital archive of the Latvian Folklore Archive at garamantas.lv.
We thank everyone who attended the exhibition opening and invite you to take a look at a short glimpse of the event.
