The Normunds Naumanis Annual Award for Art Criticism was awarded to UL ILFA researcher Ivars Šteinbergs

We are pleased to announce that on January 8, the Normunds Naumanis Annual Award for Art Criticism was awarded to Ivars Šteinbergs, a researcher at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia (UL ILFA). Congratulations!

The awards were presented at the event “NN Night” at the New Riga Theatre.
The jury nominated Kristīne Briede, Gundega Evelone, Jana Kukaine, Ivars Šteinbergs, and Guna Zeltiņa for the Annual Award for Art Criticism, highly valuing their contributions to the assessment of cultural events over the past year.

In the jury’s citation for the main award, it is stated:
“In Ivars Šteinbergs’s reviews, the author’s skills in both academic and creative writing are combined.

By engaging with facts and texts from literary and cultural history, by stylizing and at times provoking, he becomes a compelling interlocutor both for the writers whose works he evaluates and for readers.

Although his reviews are stylistically engaging and witty, they are grounded in serious knowledge and an interest in contemporary cultural processes, as well as a keen sense of his own time.”
