New Article by Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe on Olaf Stumbrs’ Archival Materials

An article by Inguna Daukste-Silasproģe, senior researcher at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia (ILFA), entitled "Ego-Documents in the Study of a Creative Personality: An Insight into Olaf Stumbrs’ Archival Materials", has been published in "Scriptus Manet: Journal of Humanities and Arts".

The article provides an insight into recent additions to the archive of poet Olaf Stumbrs (1931–1996) at the Literature and Music Museum. These additions significantly expand the collection of materials related to the poet, including correspondence, manuscripts, autobiographical notes, various printed materials, and other documents.

The study examines archival materials and manuscripts in the context of the period and the poet’s personality, drawing on the theoretical framework of ego-documents and a biographical approach. The author explores how personal and authentic sources can contribute not only to a deeper understanding of an individual creative figure’s life and work, but also to the study of broader processes in the history of Latvian exile, culture, and literature.

The article also highlights the role of memory institutions in identifying, documenting, and preserving cultural heritage, emphasizing the value of archival materials for research into cultural memory and 20th-century history.
