Māra Grudule will take part in a conference dedicated to Vilis Plūdons

On March 7–8, 2024, the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia and the Museum of Literature and Music will hold a conference titled “To the Author of The Widow’s Son and The Hedgehog’s Coat – 150”, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Vilis Plūdons. The event will take place within the framework of the 82nd International Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia.

The conference will feature twelve presentations examining Plūdons’s work from various perspectives. Māra Grudule, leading researcher at UL ILFA, will deliver a paper titled “The Literature Textbooks Developed by Vilis Plūdons.”

At the close of the first day, there will be a conversation between Liega Piešiņa and director Viesturs Roziņš about the stage adaptation of Plūdons’s poem The Widow’s Son. Throughout the conference, visitors will also have the chance to take part in the interactive quiz “What Do You Know About Vilis Plūdons?” created by students of the bachelor’s programme Latvistika at the Faculty of Humanities.

On March 8 at 11:00, the Humanities Library of the University of Latvia (Visvalža Street 4a, Riga) will open the exhibition “Through Flowers: Vilis Plūdons – 150.” The exhibition will also feature the herbarium of the Botanical Laboratory of the Institute of Biology, enriched with fragments from Plūdons’s writings.
