Article on Latvian theatre by Kitija Balcare published in “UBU – Scènes d'Europe”

An article by Kitija Balcare, researcher at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia and theatre critic, has been published in the latest and anniversary issue of the international bilingual theatre journal “UBU – Scènes d'Europe”: “Où est passée l'Europe? / Where has Europe gone to?” (No. 80/81).

The article “Theatre that Awakens. What Can We See in Today’s Latvian Theatre Landscape?”, published in both English and French, offers an overview of developments in Latvian theatre over the past five years. It explores the themes addressed by contemporary stage productions, formal approaches, aesthetic trends, and other artistic explorations that have shaped the country's theatre landscape. The article appears in the journal’s thematic section, which in each issue focuses on the theatre scene of a particular country or city. This time, the spotlight is on Latvia.

Published annually in France to coincide with the Avignon Theatre Festival, UBU – Scènes d'Europe is also available online in its entirety: "UBU – Scènes d'Europe", No. 80/81.
