Kitija Balcare participates in the CARPA9 conference on arts and sustainability in Helsinki

Kitija Balcare, a researcher at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia, is participating in the international conference CARPA9, which focuses on sustainability in the arts. The conference takes place in Helsinki, Finland, from August 28 to 30, 2025.
Titled “CARPA9 – Ecological Design and Performance Pedagogies: Sustainable Practices and Interdisciplinary Acts in a Climate Changed World”, the conference is organized by the University of the Arts Helsinki in collaboration with the Creative Arts Research Institute (CARI) at Griffith University. It brings together artists, scholars, and educators to explore research-based art, eco-design principles, and sustainability-driven practices across various art forms, with a particular emphasis on integrating these approaches into arts pedagogy.
Kitija Balcare will deliver a presentation titled “Building Ecological Awareness Through Ecotheatre”, which draws on the findings of her doctoral dissertation. Her talk explores artistic strategies within the performing arts that contribute to fostering ecological awareness and engagement.
