Jānis Ozoliņš took part in a conference dedicated to Sergei Parajanov
From February 22 to 24, the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles hosted an international academic conference dedicated to the Armenian-born film classic Sergei Parajanov (1924–1990), whose work has left a significant mark on Ukrainian, Georgian, and Armenian cinema.
Jānis Ozoliņš, researcher at UL ILFA, was invited to participate in the conference, where he presented a paper examining the parallels among the films of Sergei Parajanov, Gunārs Piesis, and Pier Paolo Pasolini within the context of archaic modernism and camp aesthetics.
The conference was accompanied by an extensive retrospective of restored Parajanov films and drew strong interest from the Armenian community in the United States, particularly in Los Angeles, home to the largest Armenian population outside Armenia.
