Ivande Kaija’s diary has been published with commentary by Gundega Grīnuma

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new work in the “Es esmu…” (“I am…”) series by Dienas Grāmata publishers – Ivande Kaija’s diary (1911–1921), accompanied by extensive commentary “Es stāstu visu” (“I Tell Everything”) by Gundega Grīnuma, researcher at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia.

Jānis Zālītis writes about the edition:

“Writer, publicist, and social activist, initiator of the ‘Golden Fund of Latvian Women,’ Ivande Kaija, is revealed in her diary (1911–1921) no less vividly than other authors already featured in the ‘Es esmu…’ series. Through the highly qualified philological editing of literary scholar Gundega Grīnuma and her extensive commentary—illuminating in detail both the personal and creative life of the once scandalously popular author of the novel Born Guilty (Iedzimtais grēks) and the historical panorama of the era—the reader gains profound insights. The unique photographs and an appendix with several indexes further enrich the work, allowing readers to enter the world of this remarkable personality even beyond her physical and spiritual decline in the spring of 1921.”

Warmest congratulations to Gundega Grīnuma!
