Ginta Pērle-Sīle and Elīna Gailīte in a conference on tradition archives in Freiburg
From 29 June to 1 July, the international conference "Tradition Archives in Motion: Sounding Out Good Practices and Challenges with Folk Collections" is taking place in Freiburg, Germany. The conference is organized by the SIEF Working Group on Archives in cooperation with the University of Freiburg.
The Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia (UL ILFA) is represented by researchers Ginta Pērle-Sīle, who will present the paper "Exhibiting" Folk Songs: A Text-Focused Approach, and Elīna Gailīte, who will present The Archives of Latvian Folklore as a Resource for History Researchers.
The conference brings together representatives of folklore archives, museums, libraries, and other cultural heritage institutions to discuss the digitization, long-term preservation, accessibility, and digital communication of folklore and ethnographic collections. It also explores what constitutes good practice today: how to ensure high-quality access to cultural heritage and meaningful collaboration with communities while addressing the challenges posed by limited resources, technological change, and growing expectations for visibility in the digital environment.
Participation in the conference is supported by the project History of Latvia in the 20th–21st Century: Social Morphogenesis, Legacy and Challenges (VPP-IZM-Vēsture-2023/1-0003) and by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia under budget subprogramme 05.04.00.
