Elīza Paula Graudiņa’s article on memoirs and haiku poetics has been published in the "Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics"

An article by Elīza Paula Graudiņa, Research Assistant at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia, entitled “Between memoir and haiku: architextual tension in the graphic novel ‘Siberian Haiku’”, has been published in the international academic journal Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics.

In her article, author examines the graphic novel Siberian Haiku by Lithuanian authors Jurga Vilė and Lina Itagaki, analysing the interplay between two genres: memoir and haiku. Drawing on Gérard Genette’s concept of architextuality and Lars Elleström’s theory of multimediality and multimodality, the article explores how the interaction between text and image shapes the representation of historical trauma.

The study demonstrates how memoir provides documentary continuity to historical experience, while haiku poetics fragments it into individual, emotionally charged moments. In this way, the graphic novel allows readers to perceive historical trauma not only as a fact of the past but also as an emotionally present and still unresolved experience.
