Doctoral students and PhD candidates are invited to apply for the academic conference “Young Researchers’ Day 2025”

Applications are open until 25 April for the academic conference “Young Researchers’ Day 2025,” to which doctoral students and PhD candidates in the humanities and social sciences are invited to apply. The conference is organized by the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia (LU LFMI) in cooperation with the LU Doctoral School and the Latvian Association of Young Scientists.
The aim of the conference is to foster academic networking among early-career researchers and encourage interdisciplinary studies, while also introducing a broader audience to current research trends in the humanities and social sciences.
Applicants may propose topics related to their doctoral research, including issues of methodology or theoretical frameworks. Interdisciplinary presentations are also welcome. Submissions are invited from doctoral students and PhD candidates working in:

Proposals that engage with contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches—such as feminism, queer theory, sexuality studies, posthumanism, affect theory, ecocriticism, new materialism, autoethnography, disability studies, and others—are especially encouraged.
Presentations are welcome from early-career researchers affiliated with universities in Latvia or abroad. Individual presentations (including discussion) will be limited to 20 minutes. The language of presentation may be either Latvian or English.
The application must include:
– the speaker’s name
– title of the presentation
– an abstract (up to 1500 characters)
– institutional affiliation or workplace
– email address

Applicants will be notified of acceptance by 1 May 2025. All participants will receive an e-certificate of attendance.
The conference will take place on 27 May from 9:00 to 17:00 in the “Sapere aude” hall at the LU Doctoral School, Kalpaka Boulevard 4, Riga. A live broadcast will be available online.
“Young Researchers’ Day” is an annual public conference held in late spring, bringing together doctoral students and PhD candidates from Latvia and around the world. The goal is to support academic growth and strengthen professional connections among early-career researchers.
The conference is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia.
