Arnolds Klotiņš receives the Baltic Assembly Prize

On Friday, 6 October, at the Saeima, after evaluating the nominees for the Baltic Assembly (BA) Prizes, an international jury decided to award this year’s Prize in Science to Arnolds Laimonis Klotiņš, Doctor of Art Studies, for the monographs “Music in Postwar Stalinism: Musical Life and Creativity in Latvia, 1944–1953” and “Music in Exile: Latvian Musical Life and Creativity in Postwar Europe, 1944–1951.”

The jury awarded the BA Prize in Literature to translator and poet Antanas A. Jonynas for the sonnet collection “Naujieji sonetai” (“New Sonnets”).
The Prize in Art will be awarded to artist Peeter Laurits for his outstanding and multifaceted artistic work and the project “Biotoopia” (“Biotopia”).

Each prize amounts to EUR 5,000, and the awards are scheduled to be presented during the annual BA session on 23 November in Tallinn.

The jury consisted of nine experts in literature, art, and science from Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. Latvia was represented on the jury by Ilze Jansone, Valdis Muktupāvels, and Orests Silabriedis.
