Anna Griķe in a conference at Södertörn University
From March 30 to April 1, Anna Griķe, a visiting researcher at the ILFA UL, participated in the international conference "Past Legacies, Present Tensions, Future Visions: Anthropology and Ethnology in and of the Baltic Sea Region", organized by Södertörn University. She presented a paper titled "Reflections on Knowledge Production from a Lonely Researcher at the Latvia–Belarus Border Area".
The conference was organized by the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) at Södertörn University—an interdisciplinary research center focused on the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe. It brings together scholars from the social sciences and humanities, regularly hosts international conferences, and publishes the journal "Baltic Worlds".
The conference brought together researchers from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, and Finland. Across multiple panels, participants presented research on the development of the discipline in the region, knowledge production in contemporary contexts, and the interplay between borders, militarization, and migration.
These activities are carried out within the framework of the National Research Programme "Letonika for the Development of a Latvian and European Society", under the project "NAMS. Latvian Identity and Knowledge Strategies as a Resource for Societal Resilience" (No. VPP-IZM-Letonika-2025/1-0008).
