Agita Misāne represents #NAMS project at two international conferences

In September 2026, Agita Misāne, a researcher at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia (ILFA), will represent the #NAMS project at two major international conferences.

The conference What Makes Literature? Redefining Realism, Poetics, and Belonging will take place from 16 to 18 September at the University of Latvia, Mazais Raiņa bulvāris 19, Riga. Agita Misāne will participate in the session dedicated to belonging and identity on 17 September, reflecting on representations of Aglona in Latvian fiction in her paper Place, Faith and Men: Aglona in Latvian Literature. Her presentation will focus in particular on two questions: whether and how literature shapes a place, and how we should approach emotionally charged works of fiction whose literary quality may be open to debate. Later in September, Misāne will travel to Romania, where the annual congress of the European Association for the Study of Religions will take place in Bucharest from 20 to 25 September, bringing together more than 700 researchers from 57 countries. Her paper, The Guardians of Latvianness – the Dievturi Movement and National Identity, will explore understandings of Latvianness within Dievturība and the activities of the Dievturi community aimed at preserving and strengthening Latvian national identity.
