A seminar “Research Data, Data Repositories, and Data Preparation for Publication” will take place
On March 27 at 11:00 a.m., the first online seminar in the new series organized by digitalhumanities.lv in cooperation with CLARIN-LV and DARIAH-EU will take place, focusing on digital humanities and historical research.
The seminar, titled “Research Data, Data Repositories, and Data Preparation for Publication,” will feature Dr. Jānis Daugavietis, researcher at UL ILFA, as the speaker. The aim of this first seminar is to provide researchers and students with a general introduction to research data policy and practice.
Since Open Science has become the dominant approach in EU science policy — alongside Open Access to publications and Citizen Science — research data represents its third pillar. The core principle of this policy states that research data should be freely and publicly accessible as soon as possible, unless restricted by data protection or other legal considerations. Where open access is not possible, at least the metadata must be made available.
The seminar will discuss key concepts and practices such as:
-
Open Science and research data
-
EU and Latvian policies on Open Science and Open Access
-
FAIR principles
-
The research data ecosystem and infrastructure
-
Metadata
-
Data anonymization
-
DMP (Data Management Plans)
-
Data repositories
-
Data preparation for publication
-
Practical examples from the Latvian research landscape
All interested participants are welcome!
The Zoom access link will be sent shortly before the seminar. To receive it, please register here: https://ej.uz/DH-seminars-270324
The seminar is organized within the framework of the project “The 20th–21st Century History of Latvia: Social Morphogenesis, Heritage and Challenges” (VPP-IZM-Vēsture-2023/1-0003) in cooperation with the project “Development of an Open and FAIR Digital Humanities Ecosystem in Latvia” (VPP-IZM-DH-2022/1-0002).
