A new issue of the scholarly journal Incantatio, compiled by Aigars Lielbārdis, has been published

Incantatio is a scholarly journal dedicated to the theme of incantations and charms. It has been published annually since 2011. The journal is issued by the Committee on Charms, Charmers and Charming of the International Society for Folk Narrative Research (ISFNR) in cooperation with the Estonian Literary Museum. The editor-in-chief is Mare Koiva.
The issue compiled by A. Lielbārža is largely based on the theme of the conference “The Canonical and Non-Canonical in Charming Texts and Practices.” The conference was organized by the Latvian Folklore Archives of the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia and the ISFNR Committee on Charms, Charmers and Charming, and took place at the National Library of Latvia in Riga in 2022. The aim of the conference was to explore canonical and non-canonical values and aspects of charming texts and practices through personal, social, religious, political, and even economic ties and contexts. This is because, across different times and in various societies and cultures, alongside texts and practices based on scientific and religious canons, there have also existed unofficial, unrecognized, yet widely practiced traditions.
The journal includes five research articles, one interview, and several reviews of books and conferences..
