6th Baltic Summer School of Digital Humanities Takes Place

From 22 to 26 July, Riga hosted the annual Baltic Summer School of Digital Humanities (BSSDH 2024), bringing together more than 80 participants from 18 countries. This year’s focus was Large Language Models and Small Languages – a theme of particular importance for humanities research in Latvia. The programme included contributions from international lecturers as well as researchers and educators from Latvia.
The Baltic Summer School of Digital Humanities has now taken place for the sixth time. It is an international intensive training programme designed for researchers, lecturers, and students in the humanities and social sciences, as well as professionals from archives, libraries, and museums. The school offers a wide range of digital research skills – from working with humanities datasets to interpreting and visualising analytical results.
BSSDH 2024 was organised by the National Library of Latvia, the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia, and the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia, which also provides students with the opportunity to earn academic credits for participation.
In 2025, the Baltic Summer School of Digital Humanities will be organised in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia and the national research programme dedicated to the study of 20th- and 21st-century Latvian history. Its focus will be on digital methods in historical research.
