Visit to the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore
On 22nd and 23rd May, 2017 representatives of the Archives of Latvian Folklore and Estonian Folklore Archives paid a visit to the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore (Lietuvių literatūros ir tautosakos institutas) in Vilnius.
The seminars and the discussions intended to promote development of joint initiatives, stimulate regional co-operation, exchange of information and form wide collaborative networks between the tradition archives of the Baltic sea region are organised already for the second year with the support of the Nordic and Baltic mobility programme "Culture".
In the first day of the meeting representatives of the Archives – Austė Nakienė, Rita Treija and Risto Järv – informed colleagues about the new development since the previous meeting last year, and also provided some insight into the future plans. The colleagues from Rīga and Tartu had a chance to get acquainted with the employees of different departments of the Lithuanian Institute and their current research. The day concluded with an exciting tour, where the ethnologist Gražina Kadžytė gave an insight into the history of the Institute’s house which has been built in 1906, and from the very beginning has related to Lithuanian science and culture.
On the second day the work continued in four groups, providing opportunities of meeting each other for researchers dealing with specific topics, namely narratives and mythology, folksongs and modern folklore processes, digital archives and data bases, as well as ethnomusicologists. After the discussions the researchers had an opportunity to visit the Museum of Lithuanian Language and the Antakalnis cemetery (Antakalnio kapinės) – one with a cultural and historical significance.
The next year colleagues from Vilnius and Tartu will visit Rīga completing the cycle of visits planned within this framework.
